Light the First Lamp

This Diwali, help a first-generation student take their first step towards college, ITI or a career.

₹0 raised of our ₹5 lakh goal by Diwali, 8 November

–days to Diwali

₹4 lakh for 1,000 students starting out ₹1 lakh for 3 students already in college

Each lamp is ₹10,000. 0 of 50 lit so far.

Every family has a first

  • The first to finish PUC.
  • The first to sit for KCET.
  • The first to walk into a college, an ITI or an office.

For students in government schools, that first step is the hardest. Most know only a handful of careers: engineering, medicine, perhaps teaching. Most schools have no counsellor.

7 in 10

students in our programmes tell us there is no one at home who has navigated these choices before.

At Pifinity, we call these students first lamps. Once one is lit, it lights the way for siblings, cousins and neighbours.

I am Shrilakshmi Deshapande.

I am very grateful to be a part of Pifinity. During my 2nd PUC (Academic year 2022), I had the wonderful opportunity to interact with Sheetal Ma'am, Founder of Pifinity. Since that day, she has been consistently supporting me, guiding me in upgrading my skills, helping me access financial support, helped me during KCET counselling to get good college, and mentoring me toward landing a good job, including assisting me in updating my resume.

Through Pifinity, I received detailed resume update guides, free career guidance sessions conducted by professionals from top companies, and valuable support in applying for various scholarship programs. I also got the opportunity to attend a 12-week "English Confident Teenagers" program, which greatly enhanced my communication skills and boosted my confidence in expressing myself. Alongside this, I received personalized feedback sessions to further refine my resume.

Through them, I also got the opportunity to secure an internship at one of the leading semiconductor companies, where I am getting valuable hands-on industry exposure. I am truly thankful and grateful to Sheetal Ma'am and the entire Pifinity team for providing me with such meaningful opportunities that have shaped my personal and professional growth.

Thank you.

Her journey started with one session. This Diwali, you can light two kinds of lamps.

They made it to college. Now we help them finish.

Getting in was the first step. Staying in is the next one.

Trisha

B.Com, 3rd year
St. Joseph's College of Commerce, Bengaluru

Trisha's father works in a garage. She scored 92% in 2nd PUC at K. R. Puram Government PU College and earned a seat at one of Bengaluru's most respected commerce colleges. Donors covered her fees for her first two years. Now she is in her final year, one step from her degree.

Asha

Asha Rajakumar Biradar
BE Electronics Engineering, 2nd year, Gopalan College

Asha's father is a bus conductor, her mother manages the home, and her two siblings are still studying. The family took a loan to pay her ₹1,30,000 college fee. This year Asha is also preparing for surgery, and the costs of books, travel and medical care keep adding up.

Rafiya

B.Com, 3rd year

Rafiya once hoped to prepare for the CA Foundation. Personal constraints closed that door for now, but not her drive. Alongside college, she takes up internships to build real skills. She has always balanced family responsibility with ambition.

1,000 students are waiting for their first session

A student in a government school in Karnataka or Chhattisgarh rarely sees the full range of degrees, diplomas, ITI and vocational routes open to them. They rarely know which government colleges are near them, which scholarships they already qualify for, or when to apply.

Disha is Pifinity's free career discovery and navigation platform for first-generation learners in Grades 9 to 12.

Never just an app

No student gets Disha as just an app. Every student starts with a facilitated session, led by our team or a certified Disha Saathi, so the first step happens with someone beside them.
